What is StarPlay?  

StarPlay is a music education software that lets you practice with professional musicians, bands and orchestras. Be part of the band - hear the other musicians as you watch the video from your chosen spot. StarPlay listens to your performance using a microphone and helps you perfect the piece with instant feedback as you play. With StarPlay you practice with real musicians playing real music using your own instrument!

How do I sign up/register an account?  

You will need to download StarPlay. Once you have installed StarPlay on your computer, click on the link in the login box to sign up.


Can I try out StarPlay before buying?  

After you download and sign up to StarPlay, you will be able to use StarPlay. StarPlay is free. You will receive at least two pieces of music for each instrument – they are indicated in the software with a *FREE* icon.

With StarPlay you purchase music, not the software. 


Is StarPlay really free?  

Yes, StarPlay is free and you can download StarPlay onto as many computers as you require. StarPlay also comes with at least two pieces of free music for each instrument. With StarPlay you purchase music, not the software. 

 


How do I preview music in StarPlay?  

Click on the piece you are interested in. The panel on the right will give you a short description of the piece.

Under the title, the audio visual components for the piece are listed. This can consist of any combination of the following: score, audio and video.

Score only will provide you with the score and MIDI accompaniment.
Score and audio provides you with a score and recorded audio accompaniment.
Score and video provides you with a score and visual and audio accompaniment.

To preview the score, click on ‘preview this piece’ under the title. A screen will pop up displaying the first four lines of the music.


How do I buy music on StarPlay?  

Log in to StarPlay and click on the piece you would like to purchase. Click on “Buy” in the right panel. You can choose to pay using StarCredits or Paypal. If you are using a Credit Card to make the purchase, please select Paypal.

Note that all prices are in US$ (and 1 StarCredit equals US$1).


What's the difference between In the Chair and StarPlay?  

The main upgrades in StarPlay are:

  • The ability to work offline
  • The ability to import your own Sibelius or Scorch file
  • The ability to save your performances
  • Immediate audio playback of your performance
